Machine output

Frequently asked questions
Proofreading or revision: what do I need?
Proofreading looks only at the target text: spelling, grammar, typography. Revision compares it with the source and hunts down mistranslations, omissions and terminology drift. We propose revision by default, because that is what genuinely protects the document.
Can you rework the output of a translation engine?
Yes, that is called post-editing and it is a growing share of the work. One caveat: if the document is confidential, it already left your premises the moment it was pasted into the tool. For sensitive material, a human translation from the outset is the safer route.
Do you revise German texts intended for Eupen?
Yes, and it comes up regularly. The administrative German expected in the German-speaking Community is not the German of a sales catalogue: phrasing, job titles and legal references follow their own conventions there. Those texts therefore go to revisers who know them.
Do you also fix the layout?
We flag and repair the damage caused by the translation itself: overflowing boxes, faulty hyphenation, lost non-breaking spaces, tables stretched by longer text. A full graphic redesign is another trade, and we say so rather than billing blind.
