A misunderstanding cannot be repaired afterwards: it skews a diagnosis, taints a consent, wrecks adherence to treatment. Frequently asked questions
Do you work into German for patients in the east of the province?
Yes, regularly. German is an official language in the Eupen area, and many patients move between healthcare systems around Verviers, Eupen and the border. We translate records in both directions and provide German-speaking interpreters on site.
What do you expect from an interpreter in a consultation?
That they render everything, including what is uncomfortable, without softening, summarising or answering on the patient's behalf. Our medical interpreters know the clinical terminology and the limits of their role: they do not explain and they do not advise, they interpret.
Do you translate documents for a university clinical trial?
Yes: protocol, informed consent, investigator brochure and correspondence with the ethics committee. The consent form is the hardest of the four, since it has to stay legally accurate while remaining understandable to someone with no medical training.
What happens to the files after delivery?
They stay on servers located in the European Union, accessible only to the project manager and the linguists on the file, and we delete them on written request. Everyone involved signed a confidentiality agreement before opening the first document.
